A phone full of useful links becomes less useful when its battery is flat or broadband is unavailable. A small information pack gives the household another route to essential details. Keep it concise and accessible, with sensitive documents stored separately where appropriate.

Include the immediate contacts

Write the electricity network reporting route for your location, your full address and the relevant building contact. Add agreed emergency contacts and where to find current official updates. Include the location of device-specific care instructions rather than copying unnecessary private health details onto a shared sheet.

  • Record useful radio stations and their frequencies.
  • Put the date checked on the page.

Add a simple incident log

Leave space for the outage start time, incident reference and time of the latest update. This can help people avoid repeating calls or passing on an old estimate as current information. Treat restoration times as estimates and use the original official source where possible.

Keep the pack usable

Store it with an accessible torch or in another location everyone knows. Use readable type and a format suited to the people who need it. A protected offline digital copy may also help, but do not make access depend on one person's account. Review after moving, changing provider or a care-equipment change. During an actual incident, follow current official instructions rather than the pack if they differ. The pack organises information; it does not guarantee that a plan written months earlier covers every problem the outage causes.
