Reading the site
You can read all guides without an account. We do not run third-party advertising banners or audience analytics at launch. Some outbound Amazon links are paid affiliate links. If you follow one, Amazon processes your visit under its own privacy and cookie policies and may attribute a qualifying purchase to this site. Our server and Cloudflare process connection information, including IP addresses and browser request information, to deliver and protect the site. Hosting security logs can contain this information.
Comments
When you comment, the name you choose, your comment, its ID and its submission time are stored in a SQLite database on our server and displayed publicly. You do not need to give an email address. Use a nickname if you prefer, and avoid sharing addresses, medical details, children's information or anything you would not want published.
Comments publish after the human check and basic security checks. Names are not verified. A successful human check is not an endorsement of a comment. We may remove content that is abusive, unsafe, promotional, conspiratorial or exposes personal information.
Human checks and abuse prevention
Cloudflare Turnstile loads when you interact with a form. It processes technical information needed to distinguish visitors from automated submissions. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for its role and practices.
The application uses short-lived keyed hashes derived from connection information to limit spam; it does not store raw IP addresses in the comments database. Submission token hashes are retained for up to a day to reject replays. Rate-limit records expire within about 20 minutes and are removed during daily housekeeping.
Private reports and messages
Comment reports, correction requests and messages are stored privately for manual review by the site operator. Messages and reports are removed from the active database after 90 days. Do not submit passwords, sensitive documents or emergency requests. These forms are not monitored as emergency channels.
Retention and deletion
Public comments remain until removed by the operator. Database backups are kept in a rolling set of up to seven daily copies on the same server; deletions therefore take longer to disappear from backups. Same-server backups do not protect against loss of the whole server.
For a privacy request or to request comment removal, use the private contact form and include the comment ID or page URL. We may need additional information to identify a contribution or establish that the request concerns you. We do not promise ownership verification from an unverified name alone.
Your checklist
Checklist ticks and recommended-kit ownership choices are stored in your browser's local storage on this device. They are not sent to us. Use "Reset ticks" on the checklist, "Reset my list" on the kit page, or clear site data in your browser to remove them.
About the operator
The site publishes under the Henry Wittcombe pen name. Its generated portrait is not a photograph of the operator. Contact the operator through the private message form. This policy describes the site as launched and will be updated if its data practices change.
