A power bank is worth choosing around the phone and cables you actually use. For an emergency bag, carrying weight may matter more than the largest wattage on the box. At home, you may have a second device that needs a higher-power USB-C output. The Nitecore NB10000 Gen4 and UGREEN Nexode 12,000mAh 100W illustrate those different priorities. This comparison uses published specifications rather than hands-on testing.

The NB10000 Gen4 is the lighter choice on the published figures: Nitecore lists 143g excluding accessories, a 39Wh battery and a maximum 22.5W output. Its appeal is a phone-focused bag that you also carry on ordinary journeys. You are paying attention to portability rather than buying a laptop-sized charging allowance.
Check that the listing says Gen4. Earlier generations have different specifications, so a similar-looking name is not enough. The headline output also does not describe every combination of connected devices; read the current manual's port and shared-output table. If your existing bank already fits comfortably in the bag and charges your phone, a lighter replacement may offer little practical improvement.
When the UGREEN is the more useful comparison
UGREEN identifies this Nexode version as SKU35526. Its UK specification lists 44.4Wh, a maximum 100W USB-C output, 65W input and a weight of 310.6g. That points towards a household which has checked that a particular USB-C laptop needs this sort of output. It is a heavier object to carry for phone backup alone.
A high maximum wattage does not mean every laptop will accept it or that the bank will power a computer through a long outage. Confirm the laptop's charging requirements, the supported USB protocol and the cable rating. Compare the size with the pocket or pouch where it will live. Someone travelling on foot with documents, water and medication may reasonably prioritise a lighter load.
Make the choice with a short equipment check
Write down the devices that need backup, their charging connectors and the cables you already own. A household with two phones may prefer separate modest banks so that each person can take one. Another household may keep one compatible bank beside a shared charging cable. Neither arrangement needs a promise of an exact number of full phone charges, which varies with the devices and how they are used.
Check the exact model, seller, returns information and current recall notices before ordering. Amazon searches can mix generations and unrelated products. A low price on the wrong model is not a useful saving. Medical equipment needs a backup plan agreed with its supplier or care team; these phone and laptop comparisons do not establish medical suitability.
Keep the backup ready between disruptions
Electrical Safety First advises following the manufacturer's charging instructions, keeping power banks away from heat and liquids, and avoiding overnight or unattended charging. Give the bank a regular place where it can be checked and replenished while you are present. Do not leave it packed against keys or other conductive objects. Stop using a damaged, swollen or overheating unit and seek the manufacturer's advice.
If the same bag travels by air, check the current airline rules before the journey. The UK Civil Aviation Authority says power banks belong in cabin baggage and must not be recharged during a flight. A familiar, compatible bank that is charged and maintained can be a better preparedness purchase than a more elaborate one which stays empty in a drawer.
