Ireland's Be Winter Ready campaign brings together weather, health, travel, schools and community information. Use it to identify the organisations responsible for your own household's dependencies before bad weather.

Find the relevant topic

Start with the official campaign and follow the links that apply to your situation, such as school transport, home care or local flooding. Check the dates and responsible organisation on any linked guidance. Do not assume a document for a previous winter contains current opening hours, contact arrangements or support eligibility.

  • Save the relevant official service pages.
  • Keep local authority contact details offline.

Make a dependency list

Write down who provides electricity, water, essential care and transport, and how to contact them during disruption. If you need extra support, ask the appropriate provider about its arrangements. A support register is useful information for a service, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted supply or a particular restoration time.

  • Keep medicines ordered through the normal process.
  • Agree a safe check-in with a trusted person.

Connect forecasts to decisions

Use Met Eireann and local operational notices for current conditions. Follow school and transport instructions rather than general assumptions based on a warning colour. Prepare familiar supplies gradually and avoid unnecessary journeys in severe weather. National guidance supports preparation, while local authorities and emergency services direct the response to an actual incident.

  • Check the return journey as well.
  • Ask for help early if essential care is affected.
