A filled bath sometimes appears in emergency advice, but it is not a substitute for a suitable drinking-water reserve. Whether temporary non-drinking storage is useful depends on the interruption, household safety and the supplier's current instructions. Do not create a new hazard while trying to prepare.

Start with safe drinking water

Use properly stored drinking water for the needs covered by your household plan. A bath's surface, plug and surroundings are not equivalent to sealed drinking-water packaging. Keep any water held for other purposes clearly outside the drinking supply and prevent accidental use in food or drinks.

  • Consider children and anyone at risk around standing water.
  • Do not block access to essential washing or care equipment.

Follow the particular notice

If planned works are announced, read what the supplier says about preparation and permitted uses. A contamination notice may require different actions from a simple interruption. Do not assume that water collected after a warning is suitable because it came from the tap, or that boiling will resolve every issue.

Consider handling and hygiene

Moving water in buckets can create spills, slips and lifting problems. Keep routes clear and use only manageable containers for any task the official guidance permits. If storage is difficult, ask the supplier about support rather than relying on a large open volume you cannot use safely. After supply returns, follow its advice for returning appliances and taps to normal. An improvised reserve should never become a reason to ignore restrictions or delay seeking help for an essential water-dependent need.
